The Bible talks a lot about how we need to fear God rather than man. That's what Exodus is all about. God is a God who says he will keep his promises. He is bigger and stronger than anyone. He has sent Jesus to forgive our sins and to bring us eternal life. We are supposed to know those promises and trust him - not just for forgiveness, but trust him every day. That's what it means to "fear God." We trust him and know he's most important to listen to because of who he is.

  1. Why do you think the parents of Moses hid him for three months? Do you remember what Pharaoh had said they had to do to the baby boys of Israel?
This is supposed to be a picture of resurrection.
The river was supposed to be a place of death for baby boys - but by faith in God's promises it became a place of life for Moses - and eventually all of Israel!

  2. Hebrews 11 tells us that the parents were "not afraid" of Pharaoh and so they hid Moses. Why do you think they were "not afraid"? How can you trust God enough to not be afraid - even when things are kind of scary?
What promises has God made to us that can help us not be afraid?

  3. Moses could have stayed in the palace and lived a comfortable life. Instead, he chose to be mistreated with God's people and defend them. Why do you think Moses chose that? Are there ever times you want to be popular, be comfortable, or have control that make it hard to obey God or stand up for people when you know you should?
Jesus says it is better to choose him and lay down your life for others than to be comfortable or popular now. Do you believe that?

  4. This passage teaches us that because God keeps his promises he hears his people when they cry out to him!
Jesus has made a way to God. If we trust him to forgive our sins he tells us we can talk to God whenever we want to. When things are hard or feel frustrating - you can talk to God!
Have you trust in God's biggest promise to us to give us eternal life in Jesus? Are there other hard or frustrating things in life right now? You can ask for God's help and he will hear you.

  5. Moses is a pointer to Jesus - who was taken out of Egypt and then raised up to save his people from their sins. Isn't it cool how the Bible has all these pictures and pointers to get our hearts ready for Jesus?
