Nick Roen
Pastor for Worship & Education
Nick knows that God has a sense of humor by sovereignly placing him in one of the coldest states in America. But he loves Minnesota in the summer, where you can find him sitting in his garage most evenings enjoying the sunset. Outside of church, he spends a lot of his time muskie fishing, boating, golfing, and running in the warmer months, and watching videos of those things in the colder months. He also loves being an honorary member of the Zuleger family, getting schooled in sports and laughing with Dave’s kids. Nick thinks that music is one of the most compelling proofs that a loving, personal God exists, and has enjoyed playing and studying it from an early age.
Nick grew up in a wonderful home with Christian parents, and he saw from an early age what it means to have faith in Jesus. Nick placed his faith in Christ in elementary school, and grew in his desires to love God with his life through high school and college. He's experienced many ups and downs, but God has remained faithful, just as he promises to be.
His dad was a pastor, but Nick never really wanted to be a pastor himself. However, during a week of summer camp in high school, he sensed that God might be leading him in that direction. So he studied music theory and composition at the University of Wisconsin, LaCrosse with the goal of doing worship ministry in a local church. Nick also developed a passion for Christian doctrine and teaching God's word during his time in the MDiv program at Bethlehem College and Seminary.
After seminary, he began pastoring at a church in Albert Lea, Minnesota, with Dave Zuleger. But he (along with Dave) eventually found his way back to the South Campus of Bethlehem Baptist Church (which is now South Cities), where he became the Pastor for Worship and Education in June of 2021. His passion in ministry is leading God’s people into worship and helping them understand the word of God, all with an aim to love God, love their neighbors, and make disciples. He is incredibly blessed to be a part of South Cities Church, and thinks that his blood-bought church family makes living in the frozen tundra worth it!
